Sourceview Guide

Sourceview is Wholechain's supply chain storytelling tool that enables you to highlight the players and activities that comprise each step of your product's journey. By simply reading a QR code with a smartphone camera (no app required), a trading partner or end-customer gets an instantaneous and user-friendly summary of your supply chain, customized entirely by you to tell the compelling stories behind your products.

Sourceview Profile Overview

A Sourceview Profile is comprised of visual and textual elements that let you tell your product's story in a simple, highly customizable way:

  • Business Logo - Your company logo can be set up from the main Sourceview page by clicking Settings. Your logo will apply to all of your Sourceview Profiles
  • Tabs - These are the pages of your Sourceview Profile, and can be customized. The default tabs we recommend using are Product and Story.
  • Cards - Cards are the informational units that make up your Sourceview Profile. Each card can include a photo, a title, a subtitle, and additional content. They can be formatted as either standalone, or timeline to show sequential events.
  • Map - If you have a supply chain map set up for the product in your Wholechain account, you can add Map as a page of your Sourceview Profile as shown above.

Creating a Sourceview Profile

Here are the basics of setting up a Sourceview Profile for one of your products.

Note: At any time while creating a Sourceview Profile, you can view the published profile in real-time in three ways: by clicking preview icon, by reading the QR code with your smartphone camera, or by pasting the URL from under the QR code screen into your web browser.

1
Navigate to the Sourceview page from Wholechain's left-side menu.

2
Click  Add, and enter a title, subtitle, as well as unique URL ending for your profile. Click New Profile once complete.

3
Click on the name of the Sourceview you've just created to be taken to the Sourceview Profile Creator. This is where you'll customize and edit all the content you'd like displayed in your profile.

4
Add each tab using the small "+" on the left side of the screen. Upon creating a tab, you have the option of choosing Simple Card,  Timeline or Map Format.

5
Once you've created a tab, click Add New Card to create your first information card. You have the option to expand the card for your additional content or not, as well as the option to publish right away to your Sourceview Profile, or save as a draft. Repeat this for all the cards you'd like for each tab.
**Note: For timeline tabs, only the Title and Subtitle fields will be displayed. We recommend entering the location of the supply chain step in the Subtitle field.

6
Including a supply chain map tab is simple, as you'll just need to select the map you've already created in your Wholechain account for a given product.
7
At any time from the Sourceview Profile creation page you can click Settings to have an overview of this particular profile, update the tab type (timeline vs. simple) or change the name. You can also update the "Product Profile Background" which is only visible in your Sourceview Profile when it is viewed on a desktop web browser.

Ways to view and share your Sourceview Profile

From your Sourceview creation page, there are two icons in the top right corner that enable you to view your profile (any cards that you've published thus far). It's through these icons that you'll be able to view or share your Sourceview profile in one of the following ways:

  1. The eye icon will take you to a small preview in your browser. This is only for your internal previewing, and is not meant to be shared.
  2. The square icon will take you to a view of the QR code. You can use your smartphone camera to read the QR code, which will pull the Sourceview profile up on your phone. You can also download the code to share.
  3. Also via the QR code icon, you'll see a share link below the code, which you can copy and paste into your web browser. This will let you view your Sourceview profile, and you can share the link with any partners as well.
  4. From the Sourceview profile itself, you'll see a share icon in the top right corner, which lets you share the profile via social media platforms.

Opening a Sourceview Profile with a QR Code

Viewing a Sourceview Profile with a QR code is extremely simple, and requires no app downloads - only a smartphone with a camera and internet connection. This is how customers can access your supply chain storytelling at the point of sale - i.e. the retail store, or on packaging itself. It can also be used in your business' other marketing communications.

Simply open your smartphone's camera, and point it towards the QR code. You'll be immediately prompted to navigate to a Sourceview webpage using your phone's default browser, and the Sourceview profile will appear.
