Event Data Sharing Scenarios
To clearly demonstrate the various possible privacy scenarios, we have created visuals below. The general rule of thumb is:
Companies in your network have visibility upstream as long as the products within the supply chain have Open Data Sharing preferences. If any upstream company in your Network has Restricted Data Sharing preferences on a product, visibility will only extend as far back as the most recent Ship Event record of the restricted product, and no further, even if products farther back have Open Data Sharing preferences.
Scenario 1:
All of your products have Open Data Sharing selected. This means your downstream trading partner can view all of the events that precede the ship event you have sent to them. You'll be able to see as far downstream as the Receive event that accompanies your ship event.
Scenario 2:
All of your products have Restricted Data Sharing selected. This means the downstream companies in your Network can only view the Ship event you've sent them, but none of the preceding events that involve the Restricted products.
Scenario 3:
One product in your supply chain diagram has Open Data Sharing, and is transformed into a product that has Restricted Data Sharing. Downstream partners will only be able to see the Ship event adjacent to their Receive event. Even though your first product is technically Open, since it has been transformed into a Restricted product, visibility ends at the Ship event.
Scenario 4:
One product in your supply chain diagram has Restricted Data Sharing, and is transformed into a product that has Open Data Sharing. Downstream companies will be able to see all of the events associated with the Open product, but only as far back as the Transform event that resulted in the Open product. Since the first product is Restricted, the downstream Network won't be able to view farther back than the Transform event.
Scenario 5:
An upstream company in your network has products with Restricted Data Sharing, however your products have Open Data Sharing. You, as well as downstream companies, will only be able to see as far back as the most recent Ship event that the upstream partner has sent.
Scenario 6:
An upstream Company has products with Open Data Sharing, however your products have Restricted Data Sharing. You will be able to see your own events as well as the events of the upstream Company. The downstream Companies will only be able to view as far back as the Ship event you've sent to them.
