What are Defined Attributes?

The uniqueness and complexity of every supply chain means that naturally, there's no "one-data-set-fits-all" solution for documenting product journeys. You'll need to collect the specific product specs and event details that suit your needs and those of your partners. Wholechain's template tool gives you unlimited possibilities to choose which data elements, which we call Defined Attributes, you would like captured at each transaction in your product's journey.

Defined Attributes are also handy when complying with certification standards that require the collection of certain data elements. Your account comes with default Defined Attributes consistent with certain Global Dialogue on Seafood Traceability GS1 elements.

Examples of Defined Attributes:

  • Best Before Date
  • Vessel ID
  • Farm ID
  • Growing Method
  • Harvest Start/End Date
  • Production Method
  • Economic Zone
  • Country of Origin/Export
  • Catch Area
  • Gear Type
  • Vessel Operator, Name, and Flag State
  • Storage State Code
  • Unloading Port
  • Fish Size Code

Field Types:

Depending on the nature of the Defined Attributes you're collecting, there are 6 different Field Types, or entry methods, that are available:

  • Text: You can enter any words / customized combination of text. For example: collection name or customized note
  • Number: You can enter only numeric entries. For example: product weight, product quantity
  • Dropdown: You can select one piece of data from a custom drop-down menu of choices. For example: unit of measure
  • Radio Button: You can select 1 piece of data from a custom selection of options. For example: unit of measure (kg or lb)
  • Date: The field is a formatted date. For example: product pick-up date
  • Document: Any supplemental document(s) that would be attached to the template via dropdown
