Disaggregate: Restoring Individual Product Traceability in Wholechain

A disaggregate event is a crucial process within the Wholechain platform that allows for the reversal of aggregation by breaking down combined products into their original, individually traceable units. This step is vital for maintaining transparency and accountability within the supply chain, ensuring that every item can be accurately monitored from source to consumer.

The disaggregation process serves multiple purposes within Wholechain:

  1. Improving Accountability: Disaggregation enhances accountability in the supply chain by allowing stakeholders to see the complete history and journey of individual products. This visibility can help identify any discrepancies or issues during the product's lifecycle, fostering a culture of responsibility among all parties involved.
  2. Supporting Regulatory Compliance: By facilitating detailed tracking of products, disaggregation aids organizations in complying with industry regulations and standards. This is essential for businesses that must demonstrate the safety and quality of their products to consumers and regulatory bodies.
  3. Facilitating Recalls: In the event of a product issue, disaggregation enables quick identification and isolation of affected items. This capability is crucial for minimizing risk and ensuring consumer safety, allowing businesses to respond effectively in times of uncertainty.

Navigating Disaggregate in Wholechain

Note: An aggregation must occur before a disaggregation event can take place in the supply chain.

  1. The Wholechain user selects the aggregation they wish to disaggregate.
  2. The products are separated back out into the same discrete products they had been prior to aggregation.

Example:

  • 50 cartons of strawberries are disaggregated from a pallet at a retail store to be placed on the shelf for individual sale.
  • A shipment of 200 bags of coffee beans is disaggregated from a large container at a distribution center, allowing the individual bags to be sent to various coffee shops and retailers.

Navigating Disaggregate in Wholechain

1

Navigate to the  Products page from Wholechain's left-side menu, and select the product for which you'd like to log a Disaggregate event.

2

In the product's Current Inventory list, select the aggregated item you'd like to disaggregate and click Actions > Disaggregate.

3
You'll be prompted to select a disaggregation date, as well as confirm the unit of measure of the input items you are disaggregating. This is to account for any product UOM changes that may have occurred when sending/receiving the product between trading partners.

4

Click Log Event and once the record is written to the blockchain, you'll see the individual contents of the aggregation appear as their own product items again. You'll see the Disaggregate event reflected in the item's Supply Chain Diagram.
