Lot IDs
Creating a Lot ID:
A Lot ID is a unique Alpha-numerical code. Lot IDs are a requirement in Wholechain and throughout traceability. Data standards are not federal regulation, however regulation does require unique lot numbers.
An example of a Lot ID is:
2023-02-01-0001
This lot ID is made using the following format - (year, month, day, production run from that day)
You may already use internal Lot IDs (not in this format) that correspond with your specific products. If that is the case, best practice is to continue using those same unique Lot IDs throughout the logging process.
Changing a Lot ID:
If there is a change in Lot ID, Wholechain requires you to perform a “transform” step to the Lot.
It is a federal law that there cannot be a change to a Lot ID number unless there is a commission or an associated transform occurrence recorded.
Lot IDs for Sourceview:
If your Wholechain account includes Sourceview, we use your specific Lot ID to provide customers with a highly curated story about that specific lot of your product. The Lot ID in this instance provides a snapshot of the traceability for that unique lot.
